After graduating Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina, Mickie trained as a health minister through the Hallelujah Acres Back to the Garden Health Ministries program in Shelby, NC.
She attended the Natural Gourmet Institute of Food and Health in NYC where she studied vegan nutrition and wheat free, and sugar free gourmet cuisine. She furthered her culinary education, specializing in raw vegan cuisine, at the Living Light Culinary Institute in Napa Valley, California. Mickie worked at top-rated vegan restaurants in NYC and San Francisco and currently teaches healthy cooking classes.
Mickie received her training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program. During her training, she studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. Her teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities. Her health coaching education has equipped her with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and her knowledge of different dietary theories, she works with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.
Mickie’s talent as a makeup artist won her a full paid scholarship to the Aveda Institute Chicago, where she studied Ayurvedic skin care and makeup artistry. To further her studies of the philosophy of Ayurveda and rebalancing body, mind, and spirit, she took classes through the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She currently offers a different style of facial which is incredibly relaxing and she beautifies the skin by using natural fruit enzyme peels and by teaching her clients how to eat and cleanse the body for beautiful skin.
Mickie is a licensed massage therapist who studied Ayurvedic massage and balancing techniques with Dr. Hari of India. She studied lymphatic drainage and craniosacral therapies through the Upledger and Chickly Institutes. As a massage therapist, she is proficient in hot and cold stone therapies, Ashiatsu (barefoot massage), using essential oils, Abhyanga (lymphatic system detox massage), trigger point therapy, Swedish, and deep tissue modalities.
Mickie studied a style of Breath work called Conscious Energy Breathing to help her clients reduce stress and release emotional trauma. She studied directly under Leonard Orr of Rebirthing International and is trained as a professional Breath worker. She practiced underwater Breath work and completed a Loving Relationship Training in order to help her clients uncover deep rooted subconscious thought patterns which may be keeping you from your natural state of joy and peace.
Currently, Mickie is enrolled at the Center of Bliss in Ally Ford’s 200 hour yoga teacher training program. It is the premier vinyasa and ashtanga based yoga training program in the southeast. Her goal is to teach her clients how to stretch properly to prevent injuries and back pain. Soon she will be teaching individual and group yoga classes, including “mommy and me yoga” for mothers and their children.
